Ah, college. A
time for one to further one’s education, live independently, and grow to be a
mature, respectful human being. Just like this guy:
Well, “my advice to
you is to start drinking heavily.”
Never have wiser words been spoken
than these of John Bultarsky’s.
Who really wants to grow up?
Let’s be honest, college today is all about having four years (or
sometimes more) to further your education about partying.
Directed by John Landis, the
classic 1978 college party film known as National
Lampoon’s Animal House gives an insight to what the party life at college
is all about: beer, girls, pranks, girls, beer, and oh did I mention girls and
beer? John Belushi captures the
typical “frat guy”, and overall college spirit, in one of his most famous roles
as John Bultarsky, a seventh year student at Faber College.
Two fraternities, the prestigious
Omega Theta Pi’s and the, well, not so classy Delta Tau Chi’s, are once again
rushing freshmen to join their brotherhood. The two houses have been rivals for years, both disliking
each other for being either stuck up or having no manners. But like most fraternity rivalries, it
is harmless. Except for the fact
that the Deltas are hated by Dean Wormer.
Using the Omega Theta Pi brothers,
Dean Wormer plots to rid Faber College of the Delta House and all its brothers
forever. Even though they are on
“secret secondary probation” the Delta brothers continue with their
shenanigans, conquest for girls, and above all, partying. Providing the audience with continuous
laughter throughout the movie, the Delta brothers are sure to have you dying to experience the college life
whether you’re a high school student, a college alum, or even a college
student.
Now
this isn’t a movie that is going to appeal to your morals, but rather it is
just like a college party: fun. This
also means that, just like a college party, it is meant for those of a more mature age. Animal House
represents everything someone wants the college party life to be: full of pranks,
girls, and alcohol. If you want to
have a good laugh and just feel better about life, give in to the Delta way. And if everything is going downhill in
your life remember what the Delta brothers did.
When in doubt, toga it out.
